Old Kaponga fire truck

This is one of the old fire trucks that were brought out to honor the city's 50th anniversary for the fire department.

Soaring Through the World: Words

I used this shot on my own site today; I hope that's not breaking some kind of protocol.
The road is not just closed; there is none right now.  The old Jackson Street bridge was demolished; hopefully the new one will be built before the end of 2012.  It will span White River.  We who use this street are waiting with bated breath.

Words

I use this on my words blog.

Sorry it is so small - I can't access the original at the moment it's on a hard drive and my laptop USB ports are dead.

Trick Words

That's what they're called when you're a first grader learning to read.
Words that you can't really 'sound out' because they just won't 'sound' right.
It's amazing at how much we take for granted, as adults; after having learned these words
for ourselves...so long ago. Trying to teach my little guy how to make these words take place
in his memory is not an easy task when you simply cannot sound them out ;)

Soaring Through the World: Words

I shot this at a local middle school in a town just west of Muncie.  I was there to see a wrestling meet.  Such a worthwhile activity to see!

I found this sign on the wall of a pub in a little town called York in Western Australia...

So, here we go....

Thank you, all for your encouraging words and thoughts regarding the lack of posting here, recently. I've taken into consideration some of your ideas and have chosen to change the 'looks' here to a simpler format. We will also continue to post at leisure according to themes but will allow a theme/idea to go for a month, rather than by the week.

If there are any further suggestions, please don't hesitate to offer :)

The theme for the remainder of this month will be "words". To give us a head start, I've chosen to post the photo below. Run with this theme, take it for all it's worth by sharing photos of some favorite words found around you.

Soaring Through the World: Favorite Shot

toes of my great-granddaughter
She is the essence of joy and sunshine in my life.

Is anyone out there?

Hello, friends from all over the world! I haven't been here for a little while, life has carried me away and I find myself distracted with it. I imagine many of you who are members here at Soaring are finding yourselves on your own hamster wheel of life, because we've not seen you in awhile, either.

When I began this blog, years ago, it was out of curiosity and a love for photography. I wanted to travel the world over through your eyes and in sharing a theme, it enabled us to have common ground. I am curious of how many people are actually visiting our corner of the blog world, I'll have to check on those stats to see.

I've kept Soaring active through the efforts of our friend, Betty. She has been so helpful to me posting themes each week and sharing her New Zealand world with us. Thank you, Betty.

This post is a call to action, really. Knowing that I've not had time to maintain it accordingly and finding Betty doing much of the work, I am wondering if we should close down. Could you please give us some feedback, whether you are a contributor or visitor here at Soaring.

We would appreciate it.

♥ Heather
