This unusual sign was found on our trip to Castlepoint.

This I Enjoy

Bild 012

“Back to school” at the end of August to me includes a sense of “starting fresh”. I’m still easily swept away by the school start rush in the stores this time of year, buying new pens and writing pads and whatnot. even though I really have nothing to do with school any more, neither as student nor as teacher. (The photo is from last year.)

Latchkey kid

I originally took this photo because I was both amused and alarmed when I found out that each NZ district originally had just 12 different keys for all it's housing http://bettysnzblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/everythings-moved.html

But when I saw it today, it reminded me that I was one of the first 'latchkey kids'. It was back in the '60's, Mom went to work--presumably to get out of the house since I was the last of 3 kids to raise, but we didn't discuss these things with the children in those days, they just did what they were told.

I recall having my house key on a string around my neck for a few years until I got to high school and started to carry a purse. I thought it was great to have the freedom to come home at lunchtime and fix myself something to eat. I would watch Garfield Goose on tv and then it was time to get back to school.

Back to School - Sunflowers

Getting Ready

Did you know that I am a school bus driver?
If you'd like to read the story about this particular photo, you can, here.

School gate

The Stratford Primary School is just down the street from us, which was convenient until the kids both got into high school.  The poor babies have to walk all the way across town now ;=)

Taken as a video still, from the web series (on my blog). This was shot right after he got his new haircut!

Deep reflection..

The Hubby took this shot a while back and I thought I'd share it since it fits the 'reflections' theme.

Shiny shiny

A few abstracts from the engine room on the boat I work on. It's all polished stainless and white paint so good for reflections. Above is part of the engine exhaust trunking.

Swan

The lake I recently posted about (wooden cabins) has a guardian. I don't know what I like best: the beautiful bird, or the various reflections in the water (the brown reflection is that of a little bridge).

Upside down

Near my place there's a lake where you can rent wooden cabins for holidays. This is one of them, upside down in the water!

A bit of beach art

Lone fisherman

This is a shot I took about 18 months ago. I saw the fisherman heading towards the sunrise and ran for my camera. Arrived back just as he rowed past the sun. It's been one of my favourite shots ever since.
